Database Names

Hi Everyone,
I've got Windows SharePoint Services installed and it uses a database called
STS_svr-apps-1_1414639615
I'm trying to back up this database from the QSQL command line tool.
However when I try to run the backup, I get the following error:
1> BACKUP DATABASE STS_svr-apps-1_1414639615 TO DISK
'D:\ShareBack\Backup.bak'
2> GO
Msg 170, Level 15, State 1, Server SVR-APPS-1\SHAREPOINT, Line 1
Line 1: Incorrect syntax near '-'.
1>
Thinking it might be an issue with the name I enclosed it in single quotes:
1> BACKUP DATABASE 'STS_svr-apps-1_1414639615' TO DISK
'D:\ShareBack\Backup.bak'
2> GO
Msg 170, Level 15, State 1, Server SVR-APPS-1\SHAREPOINT, Line 1
Line 1: Incorrect syntax near 'STS_svr-apps-1_1414639615'.
1>
Yet I still get the same error!
Then I tried to just use the database:
1> use STS_svr-apps-1_1414639615
2> go
Msg 911, Level 16, State 1, Server SVR-APPS-1\SHAREPOINT, Line 1
Could not locate entry in sysdatabases for database 'STS_svr'. No entry
found
with that name. Make sure that the name is entered correctly.
1>
Again I tried to using quotation marks, another error:
1> use 'STS_svr-apps-1_1414639615'
2> GO
Msg 170, Level 15, State 1, Server SVR-APPS-1\SHAREPOINT, Line 1
Line 1: Incorrect syntax near 'STS_svr-apps-1_1414639615'.
1> quit
If I do:
SELECT name
FROM master..sysdatabases
ORDER BY name
It lists:
master
model
msdb
STS_Config
STS_svr-apps-1_1414639615
tempdb
From this I can only assume MSDE doesn't support having '-' in a database
name?
Can someone suggest a way around this?
Thanks
Chris Moon

Database maintenance plan: .trn file not backed up

We have installed an SQL 2000 database over a Windows 2000
server platform. We have used the database maintenance
plan wizard to back up three databases on a daily basis.
We have been able to back up the .BAK files, but not
the .TRN files. In addition, a failure message has been
generated to the SQthe "Jobs" module

|||Do not use the daily plan but use the weekly and tick all seven days if need be. For some reason 'Daily' is not quite what it seems, as it is more of a 'one off' than a schedule.

Database maintenance plan backup

I've created a database maintenance plan with backup database task which is
set to back up the transaction logs of several specified databases. I open
up the backup database task, then choose <select one or more> from the
Database(s) prompt. When the drop down window opens, I select the radio box
for "these databases", and I check the databases that I want. I save the
database maintenance plan and run it and it works fine. If I open up the
backup database task again, and go to see what databases I have selected,
none are showing as selected. If I save the database maintenance plan and
run it, it fails with the following message, which does not tell me much:

This doesn't work as I would expect it to. Is there something I need to do?

PaulPaul,
Losing the database is a known problem. MS is looking into it for a later
build of SQL2005.

I had a look around to try and find information about it. Where would I
find more information about it?

Database Maintenance Plan

Hello, everyone:
I have a Database Maintenance Plan that back up some databases and delete old backup files that more than two day. Can any one have idea which action is first, backup or delete old files?
Thanks
ZYTIt backs up first then deletes.

Database Maintenance Plan

A previous employee created the plan t0 back up TRN and BAK files.
When the previous employees account is removed I get an event log that
the TRN backup failed because it could not verify that the previous
users ID had access to backup point. In the Enterprise Manager I see
the plan, but am not sure how to associate it with a different login.
Do I have to recreate the plan under my id, or is there a way I can
have it run under my ID?
I don't think you can change the plan owner, but you can try changing the owner of each job that the
plan created... I haven't tried this myself, so worst case, it will mess up your plan...

backup location contained new files. Thanks.

database logs

I am trying to reduce the physical size of a large database log. I have run several utilities - back up with the remove inactive entries from the transaction log checked, the DBCC shrinkfile utility (with a target size and a truncateonly option) and run DB maintenance to remove extra space. The properties of this log file show that it has reduced the size of the file, but the physical size of the file on the server still remains as big as it was.
Any suggestions on how to eliminate all the new free space I have created? I am looking to get the extra space on my server
Thanks.First check for any open transactions using dbcc opentran. Then follow the
steps in

Database log truncated: Database: <nome_banco>
and oh some tables were simply without any registration, what did happen?
How do I do to recover my records?
I thank at once.Frank
What do mean by saing "and oh some tables were simply without any
registration, what did happen?"
Im order to restore your data you should have full backup of you database .
To restore data at point of time you have to backup log file too.
