I need some help...
Can someone please, in point blank form tell me the difference between
Database maintenance and Database Administration? This might seem
obvious, however apparently I am not certain.
thxDatabase Administration is the task you undertake when agreeing to administe
r a database for your
company (typically). It can involve tasks such as:
Planning, implementing and managing permissions
Writing stored procedures
Performance tuning
Import/export of data
...
Among the things a dba typically is responsible for is database maintenance
(things you typically
does at a regular schedule):
Backup
Defragmentation
Integrity check of the database
...

I'd say that maintenance is a private case of administration.
That is, "administrating" involves both setting up the environment, creating
objects, etc., and also taking care of already existing environment/objects,
while "maintaining" refers to only the latter.
Nothing formal, just something that seems intuitive.
