Is database mirroring being delivered as a part of SP1 that is coming out
soon?
Can I setup mirroring with Developer Edition?

simply decided that not enough people fully tested the feature during the
beta period so they wanted to extend it's testing time. In reality it now
has more beta testing than other features that were in RTM to begin with.

Database Mirroring was feature complete at RTM and had undergone VERY
rigorous testing over a multi-year time frame. The decision was made to not
expose it in the RTM, because not enough customers had tested it against
their applications to ensure that additional problems wouldn't occur due to
all of the different permutations that are possible. It could be enabled
and used when RTM was released and several hundred customers have continued
to beta test it over the last 6 months. It is being enabled in SP1, because
they now have sufficient customer facing testing completed on it.
This is one of the features that has had more testing time than anything
else in the product and is EXTREMELY stable.

Hi All,

I get a general question about the feacture "Database Mirroring". Is it support by SQL Server Standard. Edition without SP1? Of i still need to upgrade the server from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2005 with SP1?

Another question: are there any problem if the one machine(server) has installed SQL server 2005 Standard edition and the other with "Developer Editon".

There should not be problem if one server is "standard edition" and other one is "developer edition".

SQL Server 2005 SP1 SE on WINDOWS 2003 sp1 both principal and mirror
SQL Serverver Express SP1 on WINDOWS 2003 sp1 Witness
In mirror monitoring witness indicates disconected from mirror.
All else is green.
Can ping witness from mirror and connect via MSSMS.
No errors in Witness SQL server errorlog.
What can I do to debug this? I have drilled into the status and I do not
see any errors. I kinda assumed I there is a connectivity problem. Any
ideas on how to debug/resolve it?
If you can't mirror the database due to network connectivity problems
mirroring will be shut down in High Safety, High Availability modes.
I would run a ping -t between your publisher and mirror to check network
stability, and then copy files back and forth to see if you get the same
latencies each way.

have a mix of SQL accounts and Windows accounts. . Is there a way to
automatically synchronize logins between the servers...including additions,
deletions, roles, passwords, permissions and SIDs. I know Mirroring has
nothing built in for this but am hoping someone has figured something out.For additions, I use sp_help_revlogin to synchronize logins between servers,

need to add the service account of the witness to the SQL Server hosting the
principal and mirror and vice versa. You then have to grant CONNECT TO
permissions to the account for the Database Mirroring endpoint.

Does anyone know if you can read the mirror database after installing sql
2005 sp1.
I did setup mirror config before sp1 came out, but at that time the mirror
db was not avilable to read, but I heard then in sp1 it was going to be
fixed, so you can read the mirror db.

Are there any good resources for data mirror in SQL 2005 SP1?

I tried to search on microsoft.com, there is an article, but it is outdated, it only described data mirror in SQL 2005 RTM.

we are running Sql 2005 enterprise edition sp1 on a 2 node cluster.When we send a test message via database mail we recieve the following error

Database mail does not work from Sql Server Agent Job after upgrade to SP1

Upgraded SQL Server 2005 x64 to Service Pack 1 expressly for the purpose of enabling Database Mail from SQL Job, which was a known bug that was listed as fixed in this Service Pack. It still does not work; in fact after installing SP1 on an x86 SQL Server Standard, Database Mail does not work from there now either, although it did prior to the upgrade! I am using Integrated Security.

Error message received: The job succeeded. The Job was invoked by User <name>. The last step to run was step 1 (Select). NOTE: Failed to notify 'Mike Schelstrate' via email.

Message in Error Log: [264] An attempt was made to send an email when no email session has been established.

Send test Email does work on both Servers.

Here is another Error message I found in the SQL Error Logs: [298] SQLServer Error: 2812, Could not find stored procedure 'msdb.dbo.xp_sqlagent_notify'. [SQLSTATE 42000] (DisableAgentXPs). Looks like this may be the root of the problem because it does not exist, I checked. How do I obtain this missing extended stored procedure?

I had the exact same problem with the same error on 2005. To fix it, I did the following:

1. Went into object-explorer, right-clicked on the SQL Server Agent, and selected properties. Then went to the Alert System page, and enabled the mail profile for the server agent. (you may already have this).

2. Then, went to "Database mail", right-clicked and selected "Configure Database mail." Selected "Manage profile security" and made sure my profile was set to public. THEN, and this is the kicker, clicked on the "Default Profile" field and set it to "yes".

In general I seem to be having a lot of issues with the 64 Bit on 2005.

I'm having the exact same issue.

I have SQL Server Standard Edition 2005 (SP1) running and the Database Mail is not working correctly. I get a message in the SQL Agent log saying:

"SQLServer Error: 2812, Could not find stored procedure msdb.dbo.xp_sqlagent_notify"

Any solutions to this? What is this stored procedure? I can't find any documentation on it on Microsoft's site or anywhere for that matter.

I just started working on the mail on my test server and I have the same problem.

I have followed the instruction above to no avail. I have set up a job, when it completes it is to email me. I have set up mail and have been able to send a test mail by right clicking the db mail and selecting send test mail. I have se my self up as an operator. I have enabled db mail. The only thing I find odd is when I go to SQL server agent and select properties then select alert system the test button is grayed out.

Ok I found another test I could run to see if I have it configured correctly.

EXEC msdb.dbo.sp_send_dbmail

@.recipients=N'User@.Place.com',

@.subject=N'just another mail test.',

@.body=N'just another mail test.',

@.profile_name = 'EMail';

When I run this I get the response that the mail is queued. Shortly there after I get the mail. In my case there must be an issue between the jobs and the operator.

Database Mail

Dear Folks,
I am trying to finish my configuration of Database Mail on my sp1 build 2153 sql server. I believe to have set it up properly but i still can't get a test message through. My error message reads:

The mail could not be sent to the recipients because of the mail server failure. (Sending Mail using Account 3 (2006-08-09T15:14:00). Exception Message: Cannot send mails to mail server. (Transaction failed. The server response was: Mail from <account email address> rejected for policy reasons.). )

Everything that needs to be enabled, i.e. service broker, SQL Server Agent properties, deafult profile in msdb table, services restarted. Is this message a result of Sql server policy or the smtp server? Is there a process in the transaction Sql server initiates that could be causing the policy violation that i need to tell the email admin about?

This turned out to be a DNS or relay issue. When i got the right IP address, it worked fine. I tried IP previously, the same message came back. The mail server is in another domain, which complicated the issue.
